7.3L Power Stroke – CRANKSHAFT REAR OIL SEAL – Removal

1. Remove transmission. On vehicles equipped with an A/T, see appropriate REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article in      AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. On vehicles equipped with an M/T, see CLUTCHES article for 2002 models or        MANUAL TRANSMISSION for 2003 models. On vehicles equipped with an M/T, remove flywheel. See                          FLYWHEEL.
2. On vehicles equipped with an A/T, remove the flexplate. See FLEXPLATE. On all models, remove flywheel                    adapter housing retaining rings. Remove flywheel front adapter, using care not to damage alignment dowel pins.
3. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal retaining bolts and the crankshaft rear oil seal. See Fig. 124. Inspect the                  crankshaft rear oil seal, wear sleeve and alignment dowel pins for damage.
Install NEW wear sleeve and alignment dowel pins as necessary.
4. If equipped with a crankshaft wear sleeve, use the Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Service Set (303-S485, T94T-6701-            AH), Remover and Replacer Tube (308-052, T77J-7025-B) and Forcing Screw (308-092, T84T-7025-B) to                    remove  the crankshaft rear wear sleeve. See Fig. 125.
