6.7L Cummins Troubleshooting – Lubricating Oil Temperature Above Specification

Electronic fault codes active or high counts of inactive fault codes

View and troubleshoot the fault codes with INSITE. Refer to the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, CM21 00 and CM2150 Electronic Control System, Bulletin 4021570.

Coolant temperature is above specification

Refer to the Coolant Temperature Above Normal -gradual overheat symptom tree.

Lubricating oil level is above or below specification

Check the oil level. Add or drain oil, if necessary. Refer to Procedures 007-037 and 007-009.

Lubricating oil temperature switch, gauge, or sensor malfunctioning or not in the correct location

Check the oil temperature switch, gauge, or sensor for correct operation and location. Refer to the OEM service manual.

OEM components cooled with engine lubricating oil are malfunctioning

Check OEM components. Refer to the OEM service manual.

Lubricating oil cooler is plugged

Check the oil cooler. Refer to Procedure 007-003.

Incorrect lubricating oil cooler installed

Check if the correct lubricating oil cooler part number is installed. Refer to Procedure 007-003. Check if the correct lubricating oil cooler part number is installed. See the appropriate parts manual and/or the Quickserve@ Onlline Internet Website. If necessary replace the oil cooler.

Internal engine damage

Analyze the oil and inspect the filters to locate an area of probable damage. Refer to Procedure 007-083 and Procedure 007-048.
