Preparatory Steps

 WARNING 

Wear appropriate eye and face protection when using compressed air. Flying debris and dirt can cause personal injury.
  • Make sure the area around the aftertreatment purge air actuator is clear of debris. Use compressed air to clean the area and remove any loose dirt particles.
  • Disconnect the wiring harness from the aftertreatment purge air actuator.

NOTE: The aftertreatment purge air actuator is supplied with air by the vehicle’s air system.

  • Remove the air supply to the aftertreatment purge air actuator. Refer to the OEM service manual.
  • Remove the aftertreatment fuel shutoff manifold air supply line from the aftertreatment purge air actuator. Refer to Procedure 011-067 in Section 11.

Remove the two mounting capscrews that hold the aftertreatment purge air actuator to the bracket on the engine.

Remove the aftertreatment purge air actuator.

Clean and Inspect for Reuse

 WARNING 

When using solvents, acids, or alkaline materials for cleaning, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for use. Wear goggles and protective clothing to reduce the possibility of personal injury.
 WARNING 

Wear appropriate eye and face protection when using compressed air. Flying debris and dirt can cause personal injury.

NOTE: Do not remove the valve from the aftertreatment purge air actuator. If any part of the aftertreatment purge air actuator is suspected of damage, the assembly must be replaced as a unit.

Clean the aftertreatment purge air actuator using safety solvent. Carefully remove any debris on the inlet screen using safety solvent. Do not damage or remove the inlet screen.

Inspect the threads for damage.

Replace and damaged capscrews if necessary.

Inspect the capscrews for damaged threads, corroded surfaces, or a reduced diameter (capscrew stretching).

Replace the capscrews if they are damaged or stretched.

Install

TOC

Install the two capscrews that attach the aftertreatment purge air actuator to the bracket on the engine.

Torque Value:  20  n.m  [177 in-lb]

Finishing Steps

NOTE: The aftertreatment purge air actuator is supplied with air by the vehicle’s air system.

  • Install the air supply to the aftertreatment purge air actuator. Refer to the OEM service manual.
  • Connect the aftertreatment purge air actuator wire harness.
  • Operate the engine and check for leaks.
