Preparatory Steps

 WARNING 

Batteries can emit explosive gases. To reduce the possibility of personal injury, always ventilate the compartment before servicing the batteries. To reduce the possibility of arcing, remove the negative (-) battery cable first and attach the negative (-) battery cable last.

Remove

Refer to the OEM service manual to determine the location of the air source for the air compressor.

Remove the hoses and hose clamps from the air souce and air compressor.

Remove the air compressor inlet tube sections from the engine.

Remove the flange nut that holds the air compressor supply tube to the air source.

Inspect for Reuse

Inspect the air compressor inlet tubes for cracks or other damge.

Replace the inlet tubes if cracks or other damage is found.

Inspect the hose clamps for cracks or other damage.

Replace the hose clamps if cracks or other damage is found.

Inspect the hoses for cracks or other damage.

Replace the hoses if cracks or other damage is found.

Install

TOC

Install the hoses and hose clamps to the air source and air compressor.

Install the air compressor inlet tube sections to the engine.

Attach the flange nut that holds the air compressor supply tube to the air source.

Tighten the flange nut.

Torque Value:  130  n.m  [96 ft-lb]

Tighten the hose clamps.

Torque Value:  5  n.m  [44 in-lb]

Finishing Steps

  • Connect the wiring harness connectors to the ECM. Refer to Procedure 019-043 in Section 19.
  • Connect the batteries. Refer to the OEM service manual.
  • Operate the engine to normal operating temperature and check for leaks.
