Electronic fault codes active or high counts of inactive fault codes
View and troubleshoot the fault codes with INSITETM electronic service tool. Refer to the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, CM2150 Electronic Control System, ISB, ISC, ISL, ISLe,
ISDe, and QSB3.3 Engines, Bulletin 4021570.
Incorrect calibration installed in ECM
Verify that the electronic control module (ECM) calibration is correct. Refer to QuickServeTM Online to verify that the presently installed calibration matches the diesel particulate filter installed on the vehicle. Refer to Procedure 019-031 in Section 19 in the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual,
CM2150 Electronic Control System, ISB, ISC, ISL, ISLe, ISDe, and QSB3.3 Engines, Bulletin
4021570.
OEM or customer selected inhibit feature is preventing active regeneration during vehicle operation
Check the after treatment system inhibit features with INSITETM electronic service tool. Change either the vehicle route and/or duty cycle such that the inhibit features do not prevent or interrupt active regeneration. Refer to Procedure 011-056 in Section 11 and Procedure 011-999 in Section F.
Extended operation of engine in low duty cycle, extended idling and/or low ambient temperatures
Check the after treatment system trip information with INSITETM electronic service tool. Low duty
cycle applications generally require more active regeneration time to keep the after treatment system functioning properly. Change the vehicle route and/or duty cycle to increase the load on the engine, in order to decrease the amount of active regeneration time. Refer to Procedure 011-056 in Section 11 and Procedure 011-999 in Section F.
After treatment diesel particulate filter differential pressure sensor
Use the following procedure for instructions on how to check the functionality of the after treatment
diesel particulate filter differential pressure sensor. Refer to Procedure 019-443 in Section 19 in the
Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, CM2150 Electronic Control System, ISB, ISC, ISL, ISLe,
ISDe, and QSB3.3 Engines, Bulletin 4021570.
Exhaust leaks in the OEM exhaust piping leading to the after treatment system or leaks in the
after treatment system
Inspect the OEM exhaust piping and the after treatment system for exhaust leaks. Refer to Procedure 010-024 in Section 10. If an exhaust leak is discovered on the OEM exhaust plumbing, refer to the OEM service manual. In some instances, exhaust pipe gaskets are available for use.
After treatment Diesel Particulate Filter is full of ash
The maintenance interval for ash cleaning has been reached. See the corresponding Owners or
Operation and Maintenance manual for the engine being serviced. Refer to the Aftertreatment Diesel
Particulate Filter – Excessive Ash Cleaning Troubleshooting Symptom Tree.
Engine produces excessive black smoke
Refer to the Troubleshooting Performance Symptom Tree.
