Preparatory Steps

 WARNING 

To reduce the possibility of personal injury, avoid direct contact of hot oil with your skin.
 WARNING 

Some state and federal agencies have determined that used engine oil can be carcinogenic and cause reproductive toxicity. Avoid inhalation of vapors, ingestion, and prolonged contact with used engine oil. If not reused, dispose of in accordance with local environmental regulations.

Remove

 CAUTION 

Do not rotate the crankshaft with loose or missing connecting rod caps. Damage to the piston cooling nozzles may occur.

The crankshaft must be rotated to allow access to remove all of the nozzles. Refer to Procedure 009-035 in Section 9.

Remove the piston cooling nozzle capscrews and nozzles.

Clean and Inspect for Reuse

 WARNING 

When using solvents, acids, or alkaline materials for cleaning, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for use. Wear goggle and protective clothing to reduce the possibility of personal injury.
 WARNING 

Some solvents are flammable and toxic. Read the manufacturer’s instructions before using.
 WARNING 

Wear appropriate eye and face protection when using compressed air. Flying debris and dirt can cause personal injury.

Clean the parts with solvent.

Dry with compressed air.

Inspect the piston cooling nozzles for cracked or damaged legs.

Inspect the nozzle for bends or other damage.

Replace the piston cooling nozzle if damage is found.

Install

 CAUTION 

Properly align the nozzles in the locator notch before tightening the capscrews. Damage to the engine can occur.
 CAUTION 

Do not rotate the crankshaft with loose or missing connecting rod caps. Damage to the piston cooling nozzles may occur.

The crankshaft must be rotated to allow access to install all the nozzles.

Install the nozzles and capscrews.

Tighten the capscrews.

Torque Value:  65  n.m  [48 ft-lb]
