Cummins ISX11.9 CM2250 – Service Manual 008-016   Coolant Thermostat Seal

WARNING  Do not remove the pressure cap from a hot engine. Wait until the coolant temperature is below 50°C [120°F] before removing the pressure cap. Heated coolant spray or steam can cause personal injury.

WARNING  Coolant is toxic. Keep away from children and pets. If not reused, dispose of in accordance with local environmental regulations.

• Remove the thermostat. Refer to Procedure 008-013 in Section 8.

Inspect the thermostat seal for cracks, corrosion, or other damage.

Replace the seal if necessary.

Remove the thermostat seal. Do not damage the thermostat housing.

NOTE: The thermostat seal is deformed during installation. If the thermostat seal is removed from the thermostat housing, it must be replaced.

NOTE: When installing a new seal, the seal should be installed so the part number will be visible after installation.

Use thermostat seal installer, Part Number 3164350, and a lead hammer to install the seal.

A counterbore in the thermostat housing bore locates the seal.

WARNING  Coolant is toxic. Keep away from children and pets. If not reused, dispose of in accordance with local environmental regulations.

• Install the thermostat. Refer to Procedure 008-013 in Section 8.
• Operate the engine to normal operating temperature and check for leaks.
