Cause Correction

Electronic fault codes active or high counts of inactive fault codes

Refer to Section TF in the Fault Code Troubleshooting Manual, Bulletin
4022225.

 

Progressive damage from excessive black smoke caused from an earlier or current failure event

Review the repair history of the engine to determine if the aftertreatment diesel particulate filter was or needs to be replaced. Refer to
Procedure 014-013 in Section 14.

 

Extended operation of engine in low duty cycle, extended idling and/or low ambient temperatures

Perform stationary regeneration with INSITE™ electronic service tool. Refer to
Procedure 014-013 in Section 14.

 

Engine is being lugged down

Use lower gear.

 

Intake air restriction is high

Check the air intake system for restriction. Refer to
Procedure 010-031 in Section 10.

 

Excessive internal oil consumption

Refer to the Oil Consumption – Excessive Troubleshooting symptom tree.

 

Excessive black smoke is observed

Refer to the Engine Performance Troubleshooting Tree in Section TT.
