Cause Correction

Bulk oil supply is contaminated

Check the bulk oil supply. Drain the oil and replace with non-contaminated oil. Replace the oil filters. Refer to Procedure 007-013,
Procedure 007-037, and
Procedure 007-083 in Section 7.

 

Lubricating oil does not meet specifications for operating conditions

Change the oil and filters. Refer to Procedure 007-013,
Procedure 007-037, and
Procedure 007-083 in Section 7. Refer to Cummins® Engine Oil and Oil Analysis Recommendations, Bulletin 3810340. Use the oil type recommended in Procedure 018-003 in Section V of the Operation and Maintenance Manual, ISX11.9 CM2250, Bulletin 2883444.

 

Lubricating oil drain interval is excessive

Verify the correct lubricating oil drain interval. Refer to Procedure 102-002 in Section 2 in the Operation and Maintenance Manual, ISX11.9 CM2250, Bulletin 2883444.

 

Fuel grade is not correct for the application or the fuel quality is poor

Operate the engine from a tank of high quality fuel. Refer to Fuels for Cummins® Engines, Bulletin 3379001 and Procedure 018-002 in Section V in the Operation and Maintenance Manual, ISX11.9 CM2250, Bulletin 2883444.

 

Coolant temperature is below specification

Refer to the Coolant Temperature Below Normal symptom tree.

 

Lubricating oil is contaminated with coolant or fuel

Refer to the Lubricating Oil Contaminated symptom tree.

 

Lubricating oil temperature is above specification

Refer to Procedure 007-003 in Section 7. If it is necessary to replace the lubricating oil cooler, check that the correct lubricating oil cooler part number is installed.

 

Crankcase pressure is excessive

Check for excessive blowby.Refer to the Crankcase Gases (Blowby) Excessive symptom tree.

 

Injector cup is damaged or is not correct

Check the injector cups for damage and for correct part numbers. Refer to
Procedure 006-026 in Section 6
.

 

Injector is malfunctioning

Replace the malfunctioning injector. Refer to
Procedure 006-026 in Section 6
.

 

Exhaust system restriction is not within specification

Check the exhaust system for restrictions. Refer to
Procedure 011-009 in Section 11
.

 

Crankshaft position sensor or circuit is malfunctioning or wiring is not correct

Check the crankshaft position sensor or circuit. Refer to
Procedure 019-365 in Section 19
.

 

Engine is out of time

Check base engine timing. Refer to
Procedure 001-088 in Section 1
.
